Biography
Young Swiss tenor Remy Burnens has quickly found regular success on the opera and concert stages across Switzerland and Germany. Remy studied voice with Peter Brechbühler in Lucerne and Malcolm Walker in Paris, as well as appearing in masterclasses with Raul Giménez and Filippo Morace, and has been praised for his exhilarating coloratura, brilliant high notes, velvety timbre and immaculate diction.
He is already much sought-after for his specialist skills in the repertoire of Rossini, Donizetti and Mozart and has performed roles such as Tonio La fille du régiment, Elvino La sonnambula, Belmonte Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Ferrando Cosi fan tutte, Nemorino L’elisir d’amore and Peppe Rita.
He is regular guest at the BelCanto Festival Rossini Bad Wildbad, where he has sung the roles of Gernando in Garcia’s L’isola disabitata and Dormont in the festival’s production of La Scala di Seta under Peréz-Sierra. In 2022, he sang Conte Almaviva in a concert version of Il Barbiere di Siviglia and had a great success in his debut as Argirio in Tancredi in Theater Biel/Solothurn in Switzerland.
Alongside his work on the operatic stage, Remy has earned a stellar reputation in concert repertoire. He performs regularly across Switzerland, where he sings a broad repertoire of oratorio ranging from baroque to modern. As one of the core soloists of the Accademia Barocca Lucernensis, he also works with one of the leading Swiss ensembles in historically-informed performance. Their first CD Sacred Music for Dresden Cathedral, featuring music by Zelenka and Hasse, was released in 2019 through PanClassics.

Remy is an avid performer of lied and loves to find innovative ways of reintroducing its repertoire to the world. Aside from focussing on German greats like Schubert, Schumann, and Brahms, he loves to perform early 20th century English and French songs. Together with Swiss pianist Clémence Hirt, he founded Duo Dalùna in 2018. Their first CD, A Song in the Wood, featuring a selection of songs by Britten, Head and Quilter, was released in 2021. The Duo was awarded the 3rd Prize at the inaugural Bolko von Hochberg Song Competition in Goerlitz and has performed at song festivals across Switzerland.
Most recently, he sang Rossini's Stabat Mater in Luzern, Lionel L'Éclair (Halévy) in the Hallwyl Castle (Switzerland), Belmonte Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Goethe-Theater in Bad Lauchstädt (Germany), at the Pflauen-Zwickau opera house and the Schwetzingen castle in Germany, Eurilochus Ulisses (Reinhard Keiser) and Acis Acis & Galatea in Theater Biel/Solothurn, as well as Berengario Lotario (Handel) in Payerne (Switzerland).
Future plans include The Messiah at the Chapelle Royale of the Versailles castle as well as at the Salle Gaveau in Paris,and Marzio Mitridate in Lausanne and Montpellier.
